If you’ve been a fashion influencer for a long time, you might be getting bored of your own content. Or, maybe you’ve been dying to share your recent home renovation, but you think it will “ruin your aesthetic.” Maybe you think your followers don’t care to see anything other than what you wore that day. There’s nothing wrong with breaking into other influencer categories, you just have to do it the right way. Here’s how:
1. Train your followers
Just like you have to train your followers to see your monetizable ShopYourLikes links, you have to train them to adjust to your different content. If you’re in fashion, for example, and you want to start posting about home décor, start incorporating décor posts and stories little by little. Once your followers have gotten used to seeing a few décor posts each week, you can increase the number of posts.
2. Gradual Transition
A gradual transition is key! You don’t want to scare or confuse your followers and you have to maintain your brand/aesthetic. For your first few posts, incorporate your original content style into the new content. So, sticking with the fashion influencer example, try posting a photo of yourself wearing a new outfit while sitting in your newly-decorated living room. This will show your followers that you’re still giving them fashion inspo while showcasing a new side of yourself—home décor!
3. Be Intentional, Not Spontaneous
Save the spontaneity for another time! It’s always a good idea to do some research and make a plan before breaking into a new category. Get some inspo from fellow bloggers and influencers and curate your own unique content. Your followers will appreciate the effort you put into your posts, rather than just posting whatever you want on a whim. And, it will make for a seamless transition into a new category.
4. Ask Your Followers
Your followers are one of your best tools when it comes to figuring out what to post. Take a poll on your story and ask them what they want to see! This way, you won’t have any uncertainty in whether or not they’ll take to your new content. You can stray from your usual outfit posts and post about your new bedroom with confidence.
